A full assignment was dispatched for a commercial fire alarm at 2 Westchester Plaza at 2233 hours.
Responding units found an active alarm and yellowish smoke pushing from a manhole adjacent to the rear of the building.
Truck company personnel forced the front door, checked the alarm panel, which indicated an electrical closet in the rear of the establishment. The firefighters made their way back to this area and finding a scorched electrical panel, shutdown the power to that area of the building. This action caused the smoke condition to subside and seemed to mitigate the problem.
Con Ed gas and electric were requested to the scene.
High levels of CO were detected; so the entire building (multiple occupancies) was searched and vented, prior to it being turned over to building management and Con Ed.
All units returned to service at 0143 hours.
